Accessibility

Prayer belongs to everyone. DuaLock is built by OpTech Solutions, and we want it (both the DuaLock iOS app and the dua-lock.app website) to work for every member of the Ummah, including people who use assistive technology or who have visual, motor, hearing, or cognitive disabilities. Accessibility isn’t something we bolt on at the end; it’s part of how we build.

Our commitment

We design the app to follow Apple’s accessibility guidelines, and we aim for the website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We test with the tools people actually rely on (VoiceOver, larger text, and reduced motion), and we treat an accessibility barrier as a bug, not a nice-to-have. We can’t promise perfection on every screen, so this is a living commitment we keep working at, not a finished certificate.

What we’ve built in

  • Scales with your text size.Every screen uses Dynamic Type, so when you make text larger in iOS Settings → Display & Text Size, DuaLock grows with it. There are no tiny, fixed fonts to squint at.
  • Works with VoiceOver.Interactive controls are labeled for Apple’s screen reader, and purely decorative artwork (starfields, glows, the Kaaba mark) is hidden from it, so you hear what matters instead of visual clutter.
  • Respects Reduce Motion. Turn on Reduce Motion in iOS Settings → Accessibility → Motion (or in your browser) and DuaLock softens or removes animated transitions across both the app and this website.
  • High contrast by design.The “Dusk” palette pairs cream text on a deep night-blue background; our primary text sits well above the contrast ratio WCAG asks for, chosen for legibility rather than just for looks.
  • More than one way to sense a prayer.Prayer times reach you through notifications (a visual banner, a sound, and a system alert), so you don’t have to be watching the screen to know salah has come in.
  • You choose the input. Set your location by searching for a city instead of relying on precise GPS, pick your calculation method and madhab, and use only the features you want.
  • Calm, focused flows. Screens do one thing at a time in plain language, which helps when reading, focus, or fine motor control is hard.

Using iOS accessibility features

DuaLock inherits your system accessibility settings automatically. There’s nothing extra to switch on inside the app. If you’re setting up your device, these are the settings that shape DuaLock the most:

  • VoiceOver: Settings → Accessibility → VoiceOver
  • Larger & bold text: Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size
  • Reduced motion: Settings → Accessibility → Motion

Known limitations & what’s next

Some parts of DuaLock are inherently visual: the Qibla compass points a physical direction, and a few celebratory moments are decorative by nature. We’re continually improving VoiceOver descriptions and we review every new screen for accessibility before it ships. If something doesn’t work for you, that is the highest-priority kind of bug we can hear about.
